Director of Financial Operations
Position Summary
The Director of Financial Operations will play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support informed decision-making. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations.
- Manage the financial reporting process for both internal and external stakeholders, including quarterly and annual reports, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to accounting practices.
Financial Controls and Processes:
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
- Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems, identifying opportunities for improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and automation.
- Implement and maintain effective accounting policies and procedures, providing guidance and training to the accounting team.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations for team members.
- Promote professional growth and development by identifying training needs and opportunities for skill enhancement.
Financial Analysis and Strategic Insights:
- Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and insights to support strategic decision-making by the executive team and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the financial impact of business initiatives, acquisitions, investments, and other projects.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks, offering recommendations for action.
Audits and External Relationships:
- Coordinate and manage the annual financial audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely and accurate completion of audit requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities.
Budgeting and Planning:
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to create accurate and achievable financial forecasts.
- Monitor and analyze budget variances, identifying areas of concern and proposing corrective actions as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (typically 8+ years) in progressively responsible roles within accounting and finance, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership position.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS), and relevant regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Exceptional leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and manage a team effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting: Ability to be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Lifting: Ability to lift equipment and or tools up to 20 pounds.
- Manual dexterity: Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate equipment and perform tasks such as assembling or disassembling machinery or devices.
- Vision: Normal or corrected vision to work with small parts and/or read schematics or technical manuals.
- Hearing: Normal or corrected hearing to communicate with colleagues or customers.
- Agility: Agile and able to work in tight spaces such as server rooms, data centers or other.
