Director of Financial Operations

Position Summary

The Director of Financial Operations will play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic financial insights to support informed decision-making. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments. 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other relevant regulations. 
  • Manage the financial reporting process for both internal and external stakeholders, including quarterly and annual reports, ensuring transparency and accuracy. 
  • Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards and regulations and implement necessary adjustments to accounting practices. 

Financial Controls and Processes:

  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the company’s assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records. 
  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and systems, identifying opportunities for improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and automation. 
  • Implement and maintain effective accounting policies and procedures, providing guidance and training to the accounting team. 

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment. 
  • Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations for team members. 
  • Promote professional growth and development by identifying training needs and opportunities for skill enhancement. 

Financial Analysis and Strategic Insights:

  • Provide financial analysis, forecasts, and insights to support strategic decision-making by the executive team and other stakeholders. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess the financial impact of business initiatives, acquisitions, investments, and other projects. 
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks, offering recommendations for action. 

Audits and External Relationships:

  • Coordinate and manage the annual financial audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely and accurate completion of audit requirements. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, including auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory authorities. 

Budgeting and Planning:

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to create accurate and achievable financial forecasts. 
  • Monitor and analyze budget variances, identifying areas of concern and proposing corrective actions as needed. 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (typically 8+ years) in progressively responsible roles within accounting and finance, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership position. 
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP/IFRS), and relevant regulations. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights. 
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and manage a team effectively. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
